Workshops Conclude

Painting workshops for the Fort Morgan Mural Project have now concluded. No more will be held in August as originally scheduled.
“We have most of the tiles finished,” said Ann Iungerich, Mural project director. In addition, she noted, her mother’s unexpected surgery in August has forced Iungerich to wrap up the workshops sooner than planned.
“The response has been great,” Iungerich said. “We have a wide variety of tiles painted.”
Tiles, whether unfinished or not, can be turned in to Lanny at the Fort Morgan Library.
The mosaic mural will be unveiled on Sept. 18 at the Fall Harvest Car show.
For more information, email the project at fmmuralproject@gmail.com.

FAQs

#1 - Why are the tiles already painted??
The tiles already have a base color scheme to make sure that the mosaic pieces will all work together. If everyone follows the color scheme and design in their piece it will make up the overall design when all the squares are put back together.

If everyone just painted whatever they wanted, the mural would be total chaos!

Go to: http://muralmosaic.com// to see examples.

#2 - Can I totally change the colors that are on the square I chose?
No. You need to follow the general color scheme of the square. If it was overall a light blue, you can use pastel colors to paint your square but it needs to be predominately blues. Think monochromatic color scheme with hints of others colors.

3# - Do I need to keep the main design elements in my square?
Yes. Those design elements are what will keep the overall design in tact. The edges can be softened but not totally deleted.

Winner Announced

A design submitted by Pat Samples-Ehrlich, local commercial artist, has been selected for the Fort Morgan Mural Project, completing phase one of the project.
Samples-Ehrlich, of Weldona, has painted numerous murals over the years and, as a commercial artist since 1975, has produced signs from Colorado to New Zealand and many places in between.
A judging panel selected Samples-Ehrlich’s design from among six entries. In addition to Samples-Ehrlich, entries came from Carol Boodakian, Kelly Henderson, Kirsten Russell, Heather Arenas and Bonnie Lieder.
“I kept the design simple so that the overall design will not be complicated,” Samples-Ehrlich said.
Judges were Pat Merrill, City of Fort Morgan; Juan Mecillas, representing the Downtown Business Assoc. and Fort Morgan Chamber; and Ann Iungerich, director for the Fort Morgan Mural Project.
“We were pleased with the quality of the designs submitted and the creativity involved,” Iungerich commented.
Samples-Ehrlich’s winning entry earned her $200 cash prize plus other considerations.
The winning design will be unveiled when the mural is presented on Sept. 18 at the Fall Harvest Car show.
The Fort Morgan Mural Project now enters phase two, where 480 artists from the area will have the opportunity to paint a 12”x12” panel of the mural. Workshops will be offered to provide specifics for that phase.
Artists of all levels, from beginner to advanced, are encouraged to apply to paint a panel. There is no charge to artists. Both the canvas and paints will be provided.
Artists do not have to live in Fort Morgan but should have some connection with the community. Applications will be taken on a first-come/first-serve basis.
Artists will have from April 1-Aug 15 to complete their panel. Although artists are asked to apply for only one tile, some artists may have opportunity to do more than one if applications are below the 480 mark.
Individual tile applications can be obtained at the Fort Morgan Chamber office, The Flower Petaler, Impressions by Bird, the Fort Morgan Library and various other places around town.
The first official workshop for artist will be held on April 10 from 9am – noon at the building behind City Hall. The completed mural will eventually be mounted on the south side of that building.
For more information, please contact Iungerich at 970-867-2363 or http://fmmuralproject.blogspot.com/ or fmmuralproject@gmail.com.

Phase One is Complete

The overall design of the mural has now been chosen. Pat M., of the City of Fort Morgan, and Juan M., representing the DBA and FM Chamber, analyze the design enteries before selecting the winner.

Fort Morgan Times Article

Article about the mural in the Fort Morgan Times...

Local artists are invited to submit mural designs as the Morgan County Area Arts Council begins plans for a community mural to be placed in the downtown Fort Morgan area as part of a beautification project.

The mural will be located on the wall of a city-owned shop building between
Main and State Streets just north of the railroad tracks. The building is behind City Hall and the mural will face the tracks.

The City of Fort Morgan is paying for the materials for the mural.

After the mural is selected, local residents will then be encouraged to participate in the actual painting of the mural. Further details on that step of the program will be released soon.

Artists who wish to submit mural designs should request guidelines from Ann Iungerich of the MCAAC at 867-2363, fmmuralproject.blogspot.com, or fmmuralproject@gmail.com.

Designs should be submitted in full color to a specific proportional size which is available from Iungerich.

People doing the mural will receive 12-x-12 inch panels and will put their artwork on those panels. The overall wall is eight feet high and 60 feet long.

Mural designs may be submitted at the Fort Morgan Area Chamber of Commerce office at
300 Main St. in Fort Morgan.

The deadline for submissions is March 15.

Selection of the winning mural design will be made by a panel of judges from the chamber, the arts council, the Fort Morgan Downtown Business Association and the city of
Fort Morgan.

Mini Mural from Meeting

Here is the mini mural we completed last night at the Arts Council meeting. The background of the man playing the trombone was painted onto the 9" squares before the meeting and then each artist took their square and painted sunflowers into it following the colors and shapes. It was a great challenge and stretched our minds.
